A Harry Potter movie night- one of the absolute coziest of cozy activities. Harry Potter is one of those movie series that is equally cozy with every re-watch, no matter how many times you’ve seen it before.
But why not make this re-watch extra cozy by being intentional with it? Rather than just sitting down on the couch and popping it on TV, let’s get really into it. Let’s go all out (in a cozy way, of course).
In this post, I’ve outlined how you can have the ultimate Harry Potter movie night. So get ready and let’s go cozy!

Step 1: Set the mood
The first step in having the ultimate Harry Potter movie night is to set the right mood. And here’s the mood: cozy in Hogwarts. Here’s a couple ways to do that:
Make butterbeer
Butterbeer is a classic Harry Potter drink, and getting to make it in real life is such a fun way to get more into the world of Harry Potter.
There are so many butterbeer recipes you can find online, but here are a few of the top rated ones!
Make Harry Potter themed treats
It’s not a movie night without some yummy treats to snack on. So why not make some Harry potter themed snacks? Whether you want salty or sweet, there are so many options. Pinterest is a great source for finding themed treat recipes for stuff like this, but here are a few of my favorites:
- Butterbeer Cookies
- Sorting Hat Cookies
- Sorting Hat Dogs
- Harry Potter Themed Snack Board (both sweet & savory)
Adjust the lighting
One of the simplest ways to set the mood for a cozy movie night is to adjust the lighting. That means turning off the big lights, and even the little lights if you prefer it (Harry Potter movies are great in a completely dark room.)
And if you really want to go all out with the lighting, they make those lights now that you can hook up to your TV that light up with the movie. I haven’t personally tried them (yet), but I am dying to, and here are the ones I’ve been looking at that have great reviews.
Step 2: Get cozy
Now that your snacks are all made up and you’ve set the mood, it’s time to get cozy. Here’s how:
Grab alllll the cozy blankets
It’s not a movie night without cozying up with piles of blankets, right? Getting swallowed up with pillows and blankets is one of my favorite parts of movie night.
Want some bonus points? Make a blanket fort! Who says kids have to have all the fun? Embrace your inner child and build a cozy little fort!
Want to stick with the Harry Potter theme here? Here are a few of the coziest HP blankets out there:
- HP Herbology Throw ($)
- Vera Bradley HP Plush Throw ($$)
- SandCloud Snitch Party Blanket ($$$)
- Potter Barn HP Heirloom Throw ($$$) MY FAVORITE!!
Or even buy some cute fabric and make a Harry Potter themed blanket of your own!
Be totally extra and wear some Harry Potter PJs
It’s hard to get cozy if what you’re wearing isn’t cozy. So don your coziest Harry Potter loungewear and look the part. There are so many HP clothing options out there, but here are a few of the cutest ones I’ve seen:
- Harry Potter Shop PJs
- Pottery Barn House Pajamas (they have a set for each Hogwarts House)
- Women’s HP HoneyDuke’s Tee
Step 3: Have fun while you’re watching
If you’re like me, sitting and watching a movie while doing nothing else feels impossible. Thanks to my ADHD, I have to be doing something with my hands.
But instead of doom scrolling on my phone, I find it much more cozy to do something related to the movie. Here are a few ideas:
Do a Harry Potter LEGO
Building a Harry Potter themed LEGO during your Harry Potter movie night is such a fun way to get even more into the movie! And there are truly so many LEGO sets out there for Harry Potter themed, no matter your budget.
You can do these by yourself, with your partner, or even has a whole family! Here are some cool HP LEGO sets I love at different price points:
- The Weasley Car ($)
- Aragog in the Forbidden Forest ($)
- The Knight Bus ($)
- Herbology Class ($)
- Hagrid’s Hut ($$)
- Diagon Alley ($$$)
- The Weasley’s Burrow ($$$)
Do some Harry Potter Puzzles
I am an avid puzzler, and always recommend it as a cozy hobby in general. But getting to sit down and do a themed puzzle while having a cozy Harry Potter movie night? That’s peak comfort, my friend.
Puzzles are great because you can pick the amount of pieces you want, do it by yourself, or do it with your family! They even make puzzle sets, like this one, which has a puzzle for each movie!
Here are some other Harry Potter puzzles I love:
- Puzzledly ‘Exploring Hogwarts’ (500 pcs)
- Hogwarts Castle Puzzle (3,000 pcs)
- Harry Potter Mashup Puzzle (1,500 pcs)
- Hogwarts Express Puzzle (1,000 pcs)
Play LEGO Harry Potter on Nintendo Switch
If you have a Nintendo Switch, playing LEGO Harry Potter while having your Harry Potter movie night is extra fun. If you haven’t played the game before, it is basically you playing as LEGO versions of the characters through the movies.
I like to play along with the movie I’m currently watching. It’s truly one of my favorite video games ever, and I highly recommend it! And p laying it on Switch is perfect because I can play it handheld while sitting on the couch watching the movie!
You can grab LEGO Harry Potter for Switch for cheap here: LEGO Harry Potter for Nintendo Switch
So, are you ready to have the coziest Harry Potter movie night ever? By following the steps above, your Harry Potter movie nights are going to level up big time.
What’s your favorite way to enjoy all the Harry Potter movies. Also, which HP movie is your favorite? Let me know down in the comments. Mine is Prisoner of Azkaban! 😊
