Having a Sunday reset routine is such an amazing way to get yourself prepared for the week ahead. And there’s just something about the fall that makes a reset routine like this feel even better!
The crisp weather is here, we can finally say goodbye to sweating our butts off every time we step outside. And the feeling of fall is just something else. She’s fresh. She’s crisp. She’s bringing us inspiration and good moods (and pumpkin spice lattes of course).
Is you’re a fan of somewhat having your life together, then a weekly reset routine is the perfect way to get started with that.
If you want to embrace fall in every way before it’s gone, then try making your Sunday reset routine extra fall-inspired. Here’s how.
How to reset your home:
Open the windows and air out your home
Just like our minds and bodies need a recharge, so do our homes. Everyone loves a spring clean, but I think a fall home refresh might be even more satisfying.
One of the simplest ways to give your home a literal breath of fresh air is by opening the windows and letting that crisp breeze in!
Fall air is another level of lovely, and our homes typically need to air out after months of holding in the humid summer air.
At the very least, letting them air out weekly as part of your Sunday reset routine will be beneficial to your home, and to you!
Do a quick tidy
Quite possibly one of the most satisfying things ever? Tidying your home, turning out the lights, lighting a fall scented candle and sitting down to reap the cozy rewards of your efforts.
Harry Potter anyone? (P.S. if you want to have the coziest Harry potter movie night this fall, here’s how).
By time Sunday rolls around, most of our homes are a little less than ideal. And going into the week with at least a somewhat tidy home is going to make things a lot easier on you.
Depending on how much time you have and how messy your house is, this can be a full-on clean or just a simple pickup and wipe down.
I go over some brilliant cleaning hacks in this blog post, in case you need any tips for getting a lot done with little time.
How to reset your mind
Brain dump it all
I swear by a good brain dump and will always recommend it as one of the best things you can for your mental health.
Our brains accumulate so much stuff throughout the week.
And then by Sunday, we’re thinking about the week ahead and also adding in more things for the upcoming week. To do lists, future worries, and who knows what else all while STILL carrying the stresses of the week behind us.
It is CRUCIAL for your wellbeing that you clear out that brain of yours. Let it breathe. Just like opening the windows in your house to let things air out, you gotta treat your brain the same way.
Spend 20 minutes or so just getting everything out of your brain. Grab a pen and paper, or your laptop, or even the voice memo app on your phone, and just get things out.
What are you worried about? What’s coming up this next week? What is stressing you out right now? How are you feeling? What random thoughts are circling your brain?
Even if we aren’t particularly stressed, doing a brain dump is beneficial for keeping things tidy and organized in our brain.
And going into the next week with a cleared out brain is going to help us feel more focused, creative, and confident, and way less stressed.
Decompress
After you’ve done a brain dump, it’s time to let yourself decompress a bit. I say after because if you try to decompress while your brain is still running wild with thoughts and worry, it can be hard to actually get much accomplished.
Find a way to decompress that works for you. Maybe it’s taking a long shower and listening to jazz. Maybe it’s going for a walk outside. It could be doing a cozy hobby, or more specifically a cozy FALL hobby.
Just find something that allows you to relax your mind and enjoy some slowness before the busyness of life starts back up this week.
How to reset your body
Just like our minds accumulate stress throughout the week, so do our bodies.
Our bodies hold onto stress, anxiety, tension, and can keep holding onto that until we do something about it.
Nurturing our bodies is such an important part of a Sunday reset routine. Here’s how to do it:
Self care
Self care is typically approached with a mental health angle, but physical self care is just as important.
If you want to use your Sunday reset routine to start your week off the right way, then taking care of your body is a must-do.
Take a few minutes to figure out what needs addressed today. Is your skin in need of some TLC? Do your muscles feel achy? Is there an area of your body that’s holding tension?
Once you figure out what needs attention, you can address it.
For me, Sunday self care often looks like taking a long ‘everything shower’, maybe doing a facial or some other extra skin care, doing a good stretch, or taking a bath with Epsom salts to relieve sore muscles.
Meal prep
One of the best things you can do for your physical health is prepare your meals for the week ahead.
I don’t know about you, but I historically eat waaaaay worse when I have nothing prepared. It can be so easy to make unhealthy decisions when you have to figure things out on a whim.
I’ve even noticed a huge difference between prepping the food and just leaving it in the fridge.
For example, if I buy a head of lettuce to make salads with, but don’t cut it up and prepare it on Sundays, then 9 times out of 10, I will end up leaving it in the fridge to wilt because I just get too busy throughout the week to cut it up.
Some people love meal prepping and some hate it. But either way, taking the time to do it as part of your Sunday reset routine can save you loads of time and energy (and bad decisions) later.
Get some movement
One of the best ways to set your body up for a great week is to get some physical activity. This doesn’t have to be anything extreme. The important thing here is to just get some movement.
Take a crisp autumn walk, do a yoga video on Youtube, or even just stretch for 5 minutes.
As long as you’re moving your body and being active for a bit, you’re doing yourself a favor.
I think physical activity seems a tad easier in the fall, because the weather is so nice that it’s actually enjoyable to be out in it!
Having a Sunday reset routine is one of the best ways to improve your life and reduce the amount of stress you encounter on a daily basis.
Taking the time each week to be intentional and take care of our future selves can be such a simple way to practice self love, which we all need more of.
And getting to embrace the cozy fall season while improving our lives is peak hygge.
I want to hear from you- what is on your Sunday reset routine, and how do make the most of this season each week?
