5 ways to use Canva for your blog

Should you use Canva for your blog? Even if you’re new to the blogging world, you’ve probably heard of Canva, or seen it suggested a time or two.

But what can you use it for when it comes to blogging?

In this post, I’ll go over 5 ways you can (and should) use Canva for your blog, as well as some tips for creating graphics that help your blogging business succeed!

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my links, at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products that I personally would use or do currently use. Please read full disclosure for more information.

  5. 5. Use Canva to create a Media Kit for your blog.

1. Use Canva to create Pinterest pins.

If you want to make money with your blog, then Pinterest should be at the forefront of your marketing strategy.

Pinterest is responsible for most of the traffic to blogs like mine & many others. (About 80-90% of my traffic comes from Pinterest, depending on the month).

If you aren’t currently using Pinterest to bring traffic to your blog, let me give you a quick overview:

For every blog post or piece of content you create, you will some make Pinterest pins that you will post to Pinterest. Those pins will link back to your blog post. This will bring readers to your site and help you build a dedicated audience!

Canva is the perfect tool for this because it makes creating Pinterest pins extremely simple!

Last week, I wrote a blog post all about HOW to create Pinterest pins in Canva, which you can read here.

Here are some examples of Pinterest pins I have created using Canva!

2. Canva’s Brand Kit can keep your brand consistent.

The option to have a brand kit is a HUGE reason to use Canva way for your blog.

Now just a heads up, this option requires you to have a Canva Pro account (currently 12.99/month), but this + all the other things you get as part of the pro plan are well worth the price in my opinion!

Canva’s Brand Kit lets you create color palettes, choose fonts, add logos, upload branding graphics & icons, and now even lets you create your own brand voice!

These are all super helpful, because if you are creating a graphic (like a Pinterest pin), then your branding options will automatically be the default, and things like color palettes will be at the top of the options for you to pick from.

For example, if you set a font for all of your headings, then anytime you are creating a graphic and add a heading, it will automatically be in the font you chose for your brand kit.

This saves a TON of time, and really helps you maintain consistency with branding for any visual content you create, which is extremely important!

To create your brand kit, choose ‘Brand’ on the left hand side of the homepage.

From here, click ‘Brand Kits’, then create a brand kit for your business!

Keep in mind that you can create multiple brand kits, and within each brand kit you can have multiple color palettes and font options. You can also upload your own fonts and images!

3. Use Canva to create digital products that you can sell!

If you want to make money with your blog, the best way to do this (and honestly the easiest way) is to create digital products that you can sell!

I have created a variety of digital products over the years, from online courses, planners, printable art, journals, e-books, and even Canva templates. All of these have been made in Canva super easily, and have been easy to integrate into my business.

Pretty much anything you want to make, Canva has the option to make it!

I also use Canva to create freebies for my readers, which are sometimes just a printable version of key points on a topic and are sometimes more in depth things like guides or trackers.

Adding in digital products to your blogging business is a super simple way to start earning an income. And don’t overthink it! These can be simple digital products that someone would find useful.

For example, if you write about home organization, you could create something as simple as a printable cleaning checklist and a lot of people would find that extremely helpful!

Here are a few digital product ideas you can make & sell in your blogging business:

  • Canva templates (like Pinterest pins, social media graphics, media kits, etc.)
  • Digital planners
  • E-books
  • Workbooks
  • Journals
  • Planners & trackers
  • Online courses
  • Printable artwork
  • How-to guides
  • Check lists

4. Use Canva to create your logo.

Canva is great for all things visual, so creating your blog’s logo is a great way to take advantage of this!

From the Canva homepage, type ‘logo’ into the search bar, and it will bring up the option to create a logo with their pre-set sizing.

From here, you get to be creative! Find texts and colors you love, and use the brand kit we talked about earlier to help you along the way!

Canva has a lot of premade logo options that you can edit, but I highly recommend either starting from scratch or changing a lot of the details about any premade one you use, just to avoid any possible copyright issues and for keeping your brand unique.

Make sure after creating your logo that you download with a transparent background. Otherwise, your logo will have a box behind it and will look odd on your website and other graphics!

5. Use Canva to create a Media Kit for your blog.

We’ve talked about making money with your blog by creating & selling digital products, but now we will talk about making money by doing brand partnerships!

If you decide to add in brand partnerships to your business strategy, then a media kit is crucial for you. Luckily, Canva makes creating a media kit super simple!

To start a media kit, simply type in ‘media kit’ to Canva’s search bar and you can see all of the great templates you can get started with (or create your own if you’re feeling extra creative).

Media kits will include things like what your brand is all about, your audience info, what type of work you do, pricing, and maybe some past brand partnerships you’ve done. There are a lot of options of what to add to your media kit, and this will kind of depend on your particular brand/niche.

But no matter what your niche is, you can create an eye-catching media kit in Canva that you can make changes to as needed (as your audience grows, pricing changes, etc) and that brands will love!

If you aren’t yet, I highly recommend using Canva for your blog! There are so many ways to use it to help you create amazing content, streamline your processes, and make money!

If you’re overwhelmed by Canva right now, I encourage you to use it as much as you can, even if it’s just making graphics that no one ever ends up seeing. Once you start using it regularly, you’ll really start getting the hang of it and I know you’ll end up loving it and finding it extremely valuable for your business. 🙂

What’s your favorite way to use Canva? Let me know in the comments!
