Looking for cozy hobbies you can do from the couch? I’ve got ya covered.
Nothing is cozier than curling up on the sofa with a warm blanket and a cup of coffee and getting really into a fun hobby.
And who says you can only have fun by going out to do things?
Whether you’re cozied up in your hobby room or just looking for cozy hobbies to try out at home, there’s so much fun to be had by my fellow homebodies 😊
So grab a blanket, turn off the big lights, and let’s get started.
1. Video games
I used to think that as a cozy girl who had no interest in violence or sports, video games just weren’t for me. But oh boy was I wrong.
There is a WHOLE WORLD of cozy video games, and now that I’ve discovered it, I will not be turning back.
Once you figure out what your favorite type of game is, it’ll be hard to pull yourself away.
I absolutely LOVE playing on my Nintendo Switch and love that I can take it with me wherever I go. Doctor’s offices, on a road trip, literally anywhere. But it also makes it the perfect hobby for laying on the couch and playing.
Even if you don’t have a Switch, gaming is obviously a hobby you can do from your couch.
My husband and I love to have gaming nights where we just sit beside each other while I’m playing my Switch and he’s playing his PlayStation, and we’re both just having a cozy time individually but also together, ya know?
I talk a bit more about that in my post: # cozy couple hobbies to help you bond with your partner
My go-to games for cozy peeps are:
Animal Crossing: you basically get to create your own island, design your home, plant a garden and flowers, and do literally so much other cozy stuff. I am obsessed with this game.
Any of the LEGO games: My favorites are Lego Harry Potter and Lego Star Wars, but all the Lego games are great because they’re super low-stress and super easy to learn, but still so fun!
The Nintendo Switch I use and love: Nintendo Switch OLED (PS, if you’re curious about this one vs the Nintendo Switch 2 that just came out, my opinion is that the Switch 2 doesn’t seem to have any real upgrades that justify the crazy price. I’ve had my OLED for almost 3 years and would still recommend it to anyone who wants a Switch!)
2. Reading: The OG hobby you can do from your couch
Yeah yeah yeah, I’m sure you know all about reading, but I couldn’t not put it on here. I mean, it’s like classic cozy, right?
Reading is a go-to hobby for some many of us cozy folks.
I’ve recently tried to make my reading time even cozier and it has been so nice.
One of the best ways I’ve found to do this is by getting a good booklight so that I can turn off the lights and really settle in.
Here is the book light my husband got me for Christmas that I LOVE (it works so much better than the cheap-y book light I had before, and it has multiple color options that are easy on the eyes): Amber Booklight
Another way to level up your reading: Put on some background noise to really set the mood. I use my Hatch, but you can also use just a Youtube video or a study playlist from Spotify.
3. Embroidery
Embroidery is a fun creative hobby that you can do from your couch easily. And one of the best things about embroidery is that you can create whatever you want!
There are kits online you can order in countless designs, or once you get used to the process, you can even make up your own designs!
Etsy is one of my favorite places to look for things like this, because there are so many cute options from small businesses! Here is the embroidery market place on Etsy: Shop Embroidery
Having a creative hobby like this one that also allows you to relax is the best of both worlds in my opinion.
4. Writing
A lot of people don’t think of writing as a hobby, but why not? Writing can be something you do to relax, to work your brain, to learn new things, and to be creative.
And there are so many different types of writing you can do from the couch.
You can write short stories, write poetry, you can start a blog, journal your thoughts, write letters, and literally so much more.
Writing is a great hobby for a happy brain, and the more you do it, the better you get.
And because you can write from your laptop or tablet (or even a notebook if you prefer handwriting like I do), it’s so easy to do anywhere, especially from the couch.
5. Coloring
Who says coloring is only for kids?
Coloring is one of those hobbies that doubles as self-care because of how beneficial it is for our brains.
It’s relaxing, it’s creative, and there are so many different things you can color. It teaches our brains to focus, it reduces stress, and it’s really good for low-energy days.
There are tooooons of adult coloring books out there, and even some you can get online to do with a tablet!
I’ll even give you a little starter pack of some coloring pages for FREE, which you can grab below!
If you’re looking for the perfect hobby to destress at the end of the day, coloring is it.
6. Puzzles
I can’t possibly make a list of cozy hobbies without including puzzles, because they are just. so. cozy.
And sitting on the couch with a puzzle in front of you? The best.
One of the best things I ever invested in for my cozy-loving brain is a puzzle board that makes doing puzzles from the couch a whooooole lot easier. But even if you don’t have something like this, you can do puzzles on a coffee table, an ottoman, or even the couch itself.
If you’re anything like me, once you start a puzzle you’ll have a hard time stopping until it’s done!
Want to start puzzling but don’t know where to begin? I highly recommend Cavallini & Co brand puzzles (not sponsored or anything, I just truly love the designs, the packaging, and the quality of their puzzles and that’s what I buy 90% of the time)
Thrift stores and yard sales are also a surprisingly good place to find puzzles. You might occasionally find one with a missing piece or two, but overall the risk is much less than the reward!
Everyone needs cozy hobbies and more than that, everyone needs cozy hobbies they can do from the couch.
After a long day, there is just nothing better than putting on your comfiest clothes, grabbing a yummy drink, and plopping down on the couch for some ‘me time’.
These 6 hobbies above are a great space to start embracing hygge and adding more cozy into your life!
