1. Try making your own candles
Autumn candle scents are the beeeeeessst and most enjoyable for a lot of people. Warm scents like cinnamon, caramel, pumpkin, hazelnut, and so many more.
But there’s one major downside to most store-bought candles: they’re terrible for air quality.
I didn’t realize this until we got an air purifier in our house and one day quickly after lighting a Bath and Body Works candle, the air quality absolutely tanked.
An easy way to get around this toxic effect? Choose soy or beeswax candles.
And even better solution? Make them yourself!
Candles can be surprisingly easy to make, and there are even kits you can purchase online to get started. Plus, by making them yourself, you can choose the scents and customize them to your own likes!
Getting to make some yummy smelling candles to have in your home this fall is the perfect way to embrace hygge.
2. Baking is the ultimate cozy fall hobby
When most people think of fall, they think about warm yummy treats and the smell of baked goods filling up the house.
Fall is the perfect time to get into baking because the conditions are optimal. With the weather getting colder, everyone is craving some warm treats.
Plus, the seasonal produce for this time of year makes some delicious treats (apples, pumpkins, pears).
If you want to start baking this fall, head to Pinterest and find some recipes you’d like to try! Then bake your little heart out.
If you end up with extra food, package it up and give it to friends or neighbors for extra cozy bonus points!
3. DIY Crafts
There is no better time of the year to do some DIY crafts, especially crafts that can double as seasonal home décor.
Fall/Halloween and Christmas are the two times of year when people put out the most home décor.
But seasonal décor is freakin expensive. So why not make some of your own?
Make some for this season or go ahead and prep for Christmas décor! Have a solo DIY crafting day, or involve your friends/family.
Want to make this extra cozy? Throw on a classic fall movie like Harry Potter and make some yummy treats using your cool new baking skills! 😉
4. Puzzles make the coziest fall hobby
Puzzles are such a cozy and hygge hobby in general, but doing them in fall is even cozier. Baking yourself a treat, throwing on a movie, and getting into a puzzle is such a cozy thing to do a on a crisp fall afternoon.
Here are a few of my favorite puzzles from JIGGY that are PEREFECT for autumn (click the image to be directed to the puzzle):

JIGGY is a puzzle company that supports female artists. Their mission is amazing and their puzzles are STUNNING. They even have a puzzle subscription option if you’re an avid puzzler like me!
5. Give scrapbooking a try
I remember as a kid I would make scrapbooks of everything. Every blurry photo I took as a child would get printed off and smacked onto decorative pages and then covered with stickers. It was so cozy.
But as an adult, scrapbooking just doesn’t seem to exist much. Why is that? Most people don’t even print off pictures anymore.
Scrapbooking, even in adulthood, can be such a fun and cozy hobby. And fall feels like the perfect time to try it out.
Scrapbooking doesn’t have to be difficult. You can even start with a journal and start adding photos at anytime! Craft stores often run sales on items and you can get bulk amounts of scrapbooking supplies (patterned paper, stickers, etc) for pretty cheap!
Pinterest also has so many cool ideas for scrapbooking that are actually pretty aesthetically pleasing.
I love the idea of scrapbooking because 50 years from now, it will be so fun to look back at the photos of our lives and reminisce. You can even start scrapbooks for different areas of your life.
Ideas for types of scrapbooks:
- Travel scrapbook: filled with all of your travel memories and stories
- Kids scrapbook: Keep the memories of your kids’ lives in a scrapbook. This will be so fun for them (and you) to look back on some day!
- Relationship scrapbook: Having a designated book of memories for you and your partner is so sweet!
- Home projects scrapbook: If your home will be changing throughout the years, why not document it?
- Special events scrapbook: Filled with memories from birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, or whatever else you’d like!
6. Get back into reading
Reading is the perfect cozy fall hobby.
Picture this: it’s a Sunday afternoon and you’re curled up on the couch. The windows are open and the air is crisp. You’ve got a candle going, there’s some peaceful background music playing, and you’re reading a good book feeling as cozy as possible.
Sounds perfect, right?
If there ever was a time to pick reading back up, it’s autumn.
Find a book you love, and get started. Or invest in something like a Kindle Paperwhite to make reading on the go easier and simpler.
Here’s the one I currently have on my wish list: Kindle Paperwhite
P.S. Got book recommendations? Let me know in the comments, I’m always looking out for my next read!
7. Needlework
Fall is the time when we’re all ready to embrace warmer things. Bring on all the blankets and all the sweaters.
So it makes sense that getting into needlework during this time can be the perfect hygge hobby for fall. Knitting, crocheting, or even embroidery are cozy fall hobbies that can be easy to learn and simple to begin!
Embroidery, for example, is a simple hobby you can do from the couch, and kits can be purchased online to get you started. Etsy is my go-to place for kits like these, because they have so many beautiful design options!

You can browse Etsy’s cute embroidery kits here!
Now that we’re in the “-ber” months, things are getting reaaaaal cozy. And you can make it even cozier by getting into these cozy fall hobbies.
If you’re an autumn girly like me, this is where we shine. If only fall lasted longer (sigh).
Creating a cozier life is all about being intentional and learning to make every area of your life as cozy as can be.
If you’re ready to create the coziest and hygge-iest life for yourself, you’d love my newsletter where we talk about these things!
