How cozy are your hobbies? The thing about embracing the hygge life is that there’s always room to make things cozier. One of the easiest ways to inject a little more cozy into our lives is by having hobbies that fit this lifestyle.
When I think of hygge hobbies, I think of hobbies that give ‘cozy grandma vibes’. The kind of hobbies that make you feel like you’re wrapped up in a big sweater drinking your favorite drink, feeling your best.
If you’re wanting to add more hygge things into your life, then trying out a few new hobbies is the perfect place to start. Here are a few ideas for you to help you go full cozy grandma!

Cozy Hobby #1: Puzzles
Never thought about puzzles being a hobby? Hear me out, puzzles are the BEST. And they’re so good for our minds too!
Puzzles help us to use our brains in a relaxing way. They can improve cognitive skills, reduce stress, improve memory and so much more. And having the ability to pick out what kind of puzzle you’re doing means you can pick out one that is so cozy!
My go-tos:
My favorite puzzles are those from Cavallini & Co, which can check out here!
If you’re an avid puzzler like me, and are looking to step up your game, a puzzle board is a must-have! The one I have (this one) lifts and swivels.
Cozy Hobby #2: Bird Watching
When I was younger, I never understood how anyone could find enjoyment by looking at birds. But the older I get, the more I find myself staring out the window or getting excited by a new bird feeder.
Birding is one of those hobbies that feels very hygge because it combines multiple hygge key points- slowing down and enjoying nature. It teaches you to be present and to pay attention to the beautiful world around you.
Plus, when you combine it with gardening (which we will talk about next), the hobbies can flourish together. Gardening FOR attracting birds is very cozy and very hygge.
My go-tos:
For bird identification, this one’s my favorite: The New Birder’s Guide to Birds of North America
For identification with some extra goodies, this one is amazing: The Backyard Birdwatcher’s Bible
Cozy Hobby #3: Gardening
I think there’s nothing more hygge than learning to create a life in which you can provide for yourself and learn to place care into your activities. Gardening is a great example of both of those things.
Gardening teaches us patience, care, mindfulness, and allows us to use our brains in creative ways. It also lets us connect with nature, create routine, and design our own personal sanctuaries however we choose to.
Plus, getting to literally reap the rewards of your hard work is incomparable.
My go-tos:
For learning to garden, even as a beginner: The Complete Gardener’s Guide
For all things gardening, like seriously, so many things, I’m OBSESSED with this book: Martha Stewart’s Gardening Handbook
Pssst. Want to jump into creating the ultimate cozy & hygge lifestyle?
Cozy Hobby #4: Cozy Gaming
It wasn’t until adulthood that I began playing video games, but now they are my go-to for a cozy night at home. I had no idea that there was this whole world of cozy gaming out there.
There are entire blogs and Instagram accounts out there dedicated to cozy gaming, so if you’re interested in diving into the world, there is plenty out there about it!
My go-tos:
Games that allow me to set the pace and be creative in a relaxing environment are my favorite! I love to play on my Nintendo Switch, and love that I can take it with me when I go somewhere (cozy gaming in a waiting room, anyone?)
My favorite games are:
Lego Harry Potter (extra points for this one bc Harry Potter is mega cozy)
Cozy Hobby #5: Artistic Endeavors
This one is vague, but that’s because there is so much that falls under the umbrella of being artistic. Even if you think you are not naturally an ‘artistic’ person, there is something for you!
Painting, drawing, sewing, crocheting, knitting, photography, writing, candle making, embroidery, scrapbooking, jewelry making, interior design, woodworking, pottery, coloring, creating LEGO designs, and so much more are all examples of creative artistic hobbies that you can do.
And by the way, despite what current hustle culture has told us, it’s okay to have a hobby and NOT turn it into a business. It’s okay to have a hobby and not be an expert at it.
Hobbies are about trying new things, relaxation, and discovering new things about ourselves. If you suck at painting, but enjoy doing it, then don’t let anyone stop you from painting. Besides, the more we practice at something, the better we will get at it anyway!
Cozy Hobby #6: Reading
Such a cliche for a list of cozy hobbies, right? Well, for good reason. Reading is a super popular go-to cozy activity.
There’s something so quaint and unbeatable about curling up with a good book that has captured your interest. It’s also one of those things that has the power to transport us to another place- a faraway land, a different century, a thrilling mystery, or even back to a childhood memory.
Reading also improves cognitive function, expands our vocabulary, and reduces stress.
My go-tos:
For reading: Kindle Paperwhite
Cozy Hobby #7: Baking
Imagine this: you spend your afternoon in the kitchen listening to your favorite music and baking some delicious treats. When you’re done, you have fresh goodies for the week and also the perfect gifts that you can drop off with friends, family, and neighbors! So cozy, right?
Baking allows us to be creative, relieve stress, and work with our hands which can be so beneficial for our brains. And the outcome is… delicious.
It’s also SUCH a flex to figure out that one thing you are so good at making and being the go-to person to make that for get-togethers and gatherings.
Cozy Hobby #8: Camping
If you’re an outdoorsy person, you probably already know just how cozy camping can be. But if you’re hesitant about it, hear me out.
Camping can be one of the coziest and hygge-iest ways to spend a weekend. Cozying up with a significant other, friends, or even by yourself, cooking over the fire, sitting by a lake reading a book, laying out and staring at the stars, spending time in nature- it’s. all. so. cozy.
If you’d be interested in my camping and outdoor related content, please let me know in the comments! I truly believe camping can be a whole *cozy vibe* and would love to share more of that content with you!
Bonus: Hobby stacking
You’ve probably heard of habit stacking, right? (Doing multiple things simultaneously or back to back in an effort to build better habits.)
Well hobby stacking works the same way, and can be the secret to increasing the hygge.
The concept is simple: enjoying more than one cozy hobby simultaneously. Writing while listening to your favorite music. Knitting while watching a movie. Baking while listening to a podcast. Listening to an audiobook while you take a bath.
Hobby stacking ensures *maximum hygge*.
If you want to embrace cozy hobbies in their fullest, hobby stacking is the way to go!
