Fall is here and the opportunity for cozy everything has arrived. And if you’re looking to start off your day with extra cozy fall feels, look no further than a fall morning routine.
Creating a fall morning routine can be tricky because the colder weather just makes it sooo hard to get out of the warm snuggly bed.
BUT having a fall morning routine that you can genuinely look forward to each day will help.
These morning routine tips are meant to help you embrace a little extra hygge this season and make the most of the fall before it’s gone way too soon.

Wake up naturally and skip the screens
Starting your day off with screens is about the un-coziest thing you can do for your brain.
Most of us spend our days staring at screens, but no one says that has to start as soon as you wake up.
Starting your day slowly is one of the best things you can do for you mental health, and it truly makes it extra cozy.
One way I’ve been able to do this is by switching to a sunrise alarm clock inside of using my phone for an alarm. It keeps me from having to immediately look at a screen, and it also wakes me up with a gentle light and sound that helps my body awake more naturally.
Here’s the sunrise alarm clock I have, which also plays sleep sounds and even bedtime stories: Hatch Restore
But staying away from screens in the morning can be attainable even without a sunrise alarm.
You can set a goal to avoid screens for the first 15 minutes after waking up, or even skip checking your phone until it’s time to leave for work.
Find what works for you and start your days slower!
Make yourself a cozy beverage
Fall is the perfect time to create all kinds of seasonal beverages, from pumpkin lattes to chai tea or even butter beer for my Harry Potter fans. (I deep dive into Harry Potter themed things here if you’re interested)
Getting to wake up each morning knowing that a yummy beverage awaits you is peak cozy. And it can be so fun experiment with new flavors and drinks!
P.S. please let me know what your favorite cozy morning beverage is in the comments, I want alll the ideas! 😊
Enjoy a crisp morning walk
There is truly nothing better than when the weather is crisp (just cool enough that you need a sweatshirt, but not so cold that you need a coat), and you get to be outside soaking it in.
I think getting to do this just sets you up for the day so well. You get some physical activity, you get some time in nature, and you just get to enjoy how nice it is outside.
If you don’t have the time each morning to go for a walk, then maybe this is a habit you can add to your weekend fall morning routine. If that’s the case, you can still enjoy the weather during the week!
Have your morning coffee outside, or slow down your morning walk to the mailbox.
There is just something so rejuvenating about that crisp fall air, getting a morning dose of it should be in everyone’s fall morning routine.
Make your bed
I’ve always heard that one of the top tips of successful and happy people is to make your bed every day. And I regret to inform you….. it’s kinda true.
Now I’ll admit sometimes my bed doesn’t get made until 5 pm, but it DOES always help me feel a little more in control and put together.
Adding this habit to your fall morning routine is perfect because it makes crawling into the bed on a cool fall evening feel even better.
And if you reap the benefits of knocking a good habit off your list first thing in the morning? Even better.
Looking for cozy bedding perfect for autumn? Here’s what I have and LOVE:
Write your to-do list, but make it cozy
We all have things we have to do each day, but why not make it cozy?
One thing you can do each morning is to plan out some ways you can be intentional about making your to do list more cozy. Fall is the optimal time to do this with coziness already in the air.
So let’s say your to-do list looks like this:
- Clean the kitchen
- Finish project
- Get groceries
- Workout
Then a cozier version of this to do list might look like this:
- Open the windows, light and candle, and clean the kitchen
- Finish project while listening to my favorite cozy music
- Get groceries & treat myself to my favorite warm drink
- Go for a fall walk with a loved one instead of going to the gym
There is so much opportunity within our days to make things cozier and more enjoyable. And I feel like autumn just really brings out that desire in all of us.

Spend some time reflecting
Fall is the perfect season to reflect on our lives and look ahead. Spending time each morning doing exactly that can be a very mindful way to improve your life.
Spend 5-20 minutes sitting down in a cozy spot and just reflect on things.
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to get started:
- How am I feeling?
- How have things been going lately?
- What am I grateful for?
- What would I like to improve in my life in the next season?
- How can I slow down and be more present today?
- What goals to I have?
- How can I take one small step toward those goals today?
- What do I want more of in my life?
- What do I want less of in my life?
Asking yourself these reflective questions is such an amazing way to get to know yourself and understand your needs on a deeper level.
Creating a cozy fall morning routine is one of the best ways to embrace hygge and have an amazing autumn.
Learning how to make your mornings work for you will improve so many areas of your life, from mental health to productivity and can reduce stress levels and anxiety.
